WELCOME to PENZANCE'S HOMESCHOOLING CORNER! |

Hi. Welcome
to Penzance! Being a
homeschooling Mom, myself, I know how important your child's education
is to you. I also know the frustrations of boredom with the same 'ole,
same 'ole for the kids (and for you!) I know the difficulties in
keeping a younger person's attention focused on topics like food,
nutrition, behavior, anatomy and some sciences when the heart just
isn't into that subject. Now, PENZANCE offers online courses for HORSE
LOVERS that will fill in those
topics of study that might otherwise be skipped over quickly. We make
anatomy, psychology & behavior, food & nutrition and
other topics FUN as
well as HIGHLY EDUCATIONAL! Because humans are mammals like horses our systems are very similar and function very like one another. For instance, the digestive system begins at the mouth and ends ... well, with the "end". *grin* Did you or your child know that a horse has 100 FEET of intenstines in its belly? Find a string and measure that out, stretch that string all out end to end then figure out how all of THAT fits inside the horse's gut! Did you know that horses can see two different scenes at the same time? One eye can look to the left while the other looks to the right? They work independantly one from another. Pretty cool, huh? I bet you didn't know that a horse's temperature is basically the same as ours! How the heck do they stay warm on frigid winter days? Why don't their hooves freeze? Horses can't breath through their mouths - how *do* they breath? We discuss these subjects and more. All of this, of course, is discussed in the nature of general anatomy so the student gets an awesome foundation for anatomical science. There are two courses presently being offered for Homeschoolers here online at www.thepenzancehorse.com. Both courses are geared toward the teens. Both have most materials right online with the course, have special projects that can be worked on as a family and both have weekly assignments, quizzes and a final exam. HORSE CARE & MANAGEMENT 100 gives the student the BASICS of horsemanship. What is entailed with caring for a horse? How much does a horse eat? What kind of food? Does a horse need a fancy stable? What sort of careers are there in the Equine Industry? Why do horses behave the way they do? Are they really dangerous animals? HORSE ANATOMY details the anatomical systems of the horse in a manner that is easy for the younger person to understand. Discussions range from the respiratory system to the circulatory system to the nervous system and more. Again, weekly assignments, projects, quizzes and final exam are included in this course. Both courses run for 10 weeks. During those 10 weeks I will be available, through e-mail or phone, at any time (well, please be reasonable! *grin*) to assist your student should he or she have questions. Videos, slide shows and more are included with written materials and the weeks are clearly organized as to subject and objectives. All "classes" are held online in a live chat "classroom" right here from PENZANCE. Each class lasts an hour to 1 1/2 hrs and are held once weekly at the same time on the same day each week.. Only registered students are allowed into the chats so the classes are perfectly safe and there's no worry about inappropiate intruders. Written materials are in word.doc format for easy access and are available to the student anytime, night or day for up to a year. |
