RIGHT or LEFT? Let the HORSE CHOOSE.

“Horses, as with humans, have preferences and it is best to allow your horse to choose their essential oil; they will generally indicate to you what they need if you listen and observe. Offer the essential oil to them to smell. “If the horse has an imbalance in the physical sense, it will probably use its right nostril first. If the problem is more emotionally based, the horse will use its left nostril first. The right nostril is linked to the side of the brain, which governs the horse’s functions. The left nostril is linked to the right side of the brain, which governs the intuitive side. When we are working with horses we want them in their left-brain where they will be thinking not reacting instinctively, which they do if in their right-brain. If the horse is interested it will move the required nostril over the oil and inhale. If it is not interested the horse will move away.” Any essential oils that your horse turns away from put aside for that day. When using aromatherapy with animals or people it is always best to respect and trust the individuals desires and inner wisdom.”

SPRINGTIME on the FARM!

oooooooo — Yum!  Until someone comes up with “Eau d’Equine”, this might be a great, chemical-free body fragrance to substitute!

MAKE YOUR OWN  “PassionFruit” in a rollerbottle wear it as a perfume. I love it! Equal parts of Passion/Grapefruit fill remainder of rollerbottle with fractionated coconut oil.

Great way to end up a hard day on the spring-time farm … relax in a soft, Epsom-salt bath then roll on your “Passionfruit” … Enjoy!

(Just be careful if you wear this out to the barn with the horses — they may want to lick you from head to toe!)  😉

Gwen is a wonderful teacher. When I first got my horse Jigs, he was pushy and didn’t listen. After a few sessions with her, he became a barn favorite for his good manner and sunny personality.
Gwen trained me I think, not JIGS :). I highly reccomend her.

Owner, Horses Know the Way Home
Gwen,
What impresses me about you is, you look not only at the hoof but the whole horse and the whole horse environment. Who is the owner and where does the horse live and how are they treated and fed.
You stay on top of the the latest research and you follow up with pertinent information in a very timely fashion.

“… If it weren’t for you Gwen, my passion for horses would not have grown to what it is today.  I started my online lessons with Gwen in 2008 and have taken many lessons with her. She really knows her stuff. My horse is healthy. My other horse, Corado, died of cancer at 18. He may not have lived as long if it weren’t for Gwen. Both of my horses never colicked, their feet were absolutely amazing (with Gwen’s guidance), never lame.  … After 5 years of following Gwen’s method, I have proof that she knows her stuff (and if she doesn’t she’ll find the information).  Love you Gwen. RONN, New York :
Hi Gwen,
I first came to you because of my need to get ‘ real “ answers  about natural hoof care.  Your original Penzance website led me to enroll in your class Natural Hoof Care 101. I knew absolutely nothing at that time and had a horse that had recently foundered.
After working with you I working with you, I came away with the confidence that I had made the right decision to keep my horse as natural as possible, regardless of domestication.
I feel that overall your reasoning has been solid throughout the years and that is why I still call upon you as one of my two ” go to ” mentors regarding anything hoof. The other is K C LaPierre.  Beyond the hoof, especially respecting nutrition, Gwen– u da girl !

VANESSA, NH :
“I would entrust the care and well-being of any horse, sound or lame, healthy or sick, troubled or at peace, to Gwen Santagate. I give her my highest recommendation because she is one of the most honest, wisest,  and most circumspect people I have ever met. She goes the extra mile (or ten) for the horse’s sake and makes every animal’s total well-being her top priority. My horse recommends her, too -four hooves up! –  because, thanks to her, and her alone, he is alive and well.”

The Many Benefits of the “King of Oils”

Frankincense_Uses1

Often called the “king of oils, ” Frankincense is an amazing oil that should be in every farm and home.  Topical and internal uses provide modern health benefits while, aromatically, it promotes feelings of peace and overall wellness .

Some of the benefits of Frankincense Essential Oil are:

1. Aids with minor wounds from cuts, scrapes, and burns. For even greater benefit, apply Lavender essential oil first then layer Frankincense on top.

2. Neurological support. — Frankincense is probably the best oil I know of for neurological support. It helps with the function of the central nervous system in particular. Whether it’s helping with clarity of thinking, or balancing the emotions, frankincense has a lot of benefits to offer. Extremely soothing.

3. Helps to reduces and fade scars. Just combine 2-3 drops of frankincense oil with coconut oil, and directly apply it on your skin.

4. Fosters a strong immune system. Massage a few drops into the balls of your feet daily to boost your immune system. You can also diffuse it throughout your home or in your bedroom at night.

5. Reduces stress and anxious feelings. Diffuse with complimentary oils to promote peace in your home and stable.  One can also simply massage a drop or two in some carrier oil onto the back of the neck. For horses it can be applied to the poll.

6. Frankincense affects Hormones and Memory helping to balance them and improve the memory.

7.  Mix a few drops of the Frankincense with a carrier oil (like coconut) and apply to your skin. You can also add a drop of Frank to your daily moisturizer.

8. Head tension. Frankincense can be used to relieve conditions where pain and tension are present – apply behind the ears or to the temples or even on the back of the neck.

9. Congestion. Put up to six drops in a sink or bowl filled with very hot water then bend over the sink with a towel draped over your head to contain the steam. Breathe in the vapors for at least five minutes, adding more hot water as needed. Be careful not to scald yourself; the water should be hot, not boiling. One can add some melaleuca, peppermint and oregano to the mix, also. VERY STRONG … use with care.
